Re: Neil Young

Frontier town, home of the westren hero
Frontier justice, dealt with the iron hand

He wore a long coat to the ground
He wore big boots that made a sound
He wore a six gun on his hip
But now he doesn't carry it

Sure enough, he was a western hero
On the deck, sighting an old Jap zero

And on the shores at Normandy
He fought for you, he fought for me
Across the land and on the sea
But now he's just a memory

And in the distance, the rocket's red glare
The bombs burst in the air
This time we're never going back

Through the years he changed somehow
He's different now
He's different now

Open fire, here comes the western hero
Standing there, big money in his hand
Sure enough, he was a western hero, Sure enough

Just fucking sublime

Got all the time in the world to listen to Neil Young; whatever (style) he uses, he seems to do it from the heart.

Strange that a man who bases a lot of his music on distortion and feedback fights so hard on the quality aspect.

Hard to pin down a favourite album, but I do love every track on the Unplugged CD.

Neil Young is a genius.

Cortez the Killer is essential for any long plane journey.

And what a range the man had. Southern Man, the Needle and the Damage Done, Harvest Moon. He could do almost anything.

One of the world's great musicians.

See if you can spot his admitted Hank Marvin influence on this track?

Good question westhammerer. I'm not sure that it is the case of one or two specific examples rather than an overall impression. Found his story presented as far too self righteous, Would have preferred a little more introspection.

So maybe I expected more. It is rare that I read autobiographies but picked this up on a whim at an airport.

Still love his music though.

This aint bible school or exegetical examination, but i read that same book you did, and if you could pin down or enigmatically indicate where you felt he came across as a knob then I'd be interested.

maybe you wanted more from it? did he let you down? where did it all go wrong for you?

Re: Neil Young
One of my long term favourite artists but when I read his autobiography "Waging Heavy Peace" I thought he came across as a bit of a knob. Regret reading it now.

After the Goldrush and Harvest - IMHO are almost as good as On The Beach, Tonights the Night, and Zuma.

It's quite an excellent back-catalogue.

I'm envious of those who have yet to come across it.

My dad took me first to see him in the 1970s (was bored!) last saw him with Crazy Horse at the O2 a year or two ago.

I think that song was about Pegi - his wife - but then he recently caught sillyoldmanimabouttodie-ness and hooked up with Daryl Hannah!
